XX Muhu Future Music Festival "JUU JÄÄB 2016"

Festival Juu Jääb is a cultural event on the tiny island called Muhu, (neighbour island of Saaremaa) in West Estonia. International Muhu Future Music Festival JUU JÄÄB (since 1997) is an annual summer festival in Estonia, which brings together musicians and artists all around the world. Artists from USA, UK, Brazil, Argentina, Japan, Mongolia, France, Finlad, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Bulgaria, Faroe Islands, Italy, Nigeria, Denmark, Canada, Columbia, Sweden and of course Estonia have been taken part of the Juu Jääb Festival during last 19 years. This summer, Juu Jääb will celebrate his 20th edition during June 28th – July 3rd in Muhu and Saaremaa islands.

How to find us?

This year, festival's outdoor concerts and jammsessions are held at Muhu Music Farm which is the new home of the festival! Last years' festivals have been held at Nautse Mihkli's farm yard.

Muhu Music Farm is located at Hellamaa (Google maps 5 km from Kuivastu to Kuressaare). You can reach us with car or by bus:

  • Public transportation gets you to Hellamaa busstation at Muhu island which is 200 meters from Muhu Music Farm. The bus informations can be found from here: www.tpilet.ee.
  • You can also use Looduse Omnibuss www.looduseomnibuss.ee.

Gilles Peterson is best known as a radio presenter on Saturday afternoons on BBC 6Music and as an international club DJ, Gilles Peterson is also an avid record collector, a curator, a music producer and record label boss. Every year he puts on two large events – the Worldwide Awards in London which are his annual showcase of that years best music and the Worldwide Festival which has expanded to two editions – one in south of France in July and one in Switzerland in March. He also presents a syndicated weekly radio show that is broadcast all over the globe, from Shanghai and Sydney to France and Germany.

Ola Onabule is one of the finest vocalists and contemporary artists of our time. British born, Nigerian raised, Onabule writes music exempt from cliche and reminiscent of the great songwriters of the 60’s and 70’s. His music crosses boundaries uniting Jazz, Soul and World Music influences to form a unique yet highly identifiable style. As a performer, Ola has gained worldwide critical acclaim as the consummate artist. With emotional intensity and sophisticated theatricality, he utilizes the whole stage, engaging the audience, displaying vocal virtuosity interspersed with poignant storytelling. Ola’s emotionally charged live performances have been seen on the most prestigious festival stages, concert halls and jazz clubs world wide including the main stage of the Montreal Jazz Festival, Vancouver International Jazz Festival, Istanbul Jazz Festival, Edmonton and Victoria Jazz Festival. The breadth of Ola’s music has led to featured appearances with Europe’s finest Big Bands and Orchestras including the Grammy Award winning WDR Big Band of Cologne as well as the Danish Radio Big Band, Babelsberg Film Orchestra, SWR Radio Big Band of Stuttgart, HR Big Band of Frankfurt and The Symphonic Orchestra of San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

China Moses has been steeped in music and the theatre world since she was a child. The daughter of Dee Dee Bridgewater and director Gilbert Moses was born in Los Angeles and raised in Paris, France.She released her first single Time (1996) at the age of 16 along with her first video directed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino. This success was followed by three albums: “China” (Source/Virgin 1997), “On Tourne en Rond” (2000 Source/Virgin) and “ Good Lovin’ ” (2004 Source/EMI), turning her into a force to be reckoned with on the French Soul/Pop scene. Her albums brought her work with renowned names like Guru, DJ Mehdi, Karriem Riggins,Meshell Ndegeocello, Anthony Marshall and sound engineer Bob Power.

In 2009, she released the album “This One’s For Dinah” (Blue Note France), a tribute to her idol Dinah Washington, with the pianist Raphaël Lemonnier. The musicians carried on working together in 2012 with the album “Crazy Blues” (Decca/UMG), a tribute to some of the Great Dames of Blues and Soul.  It was named by the UK “Times” as one of the Top 100 albums of 2013. These two “Jazz” projects took her on the road where Moses developed a keen sense of stage. She considers herself a Jazz storyteller, infusing each set with anecdotes and tales from the yester years.  Audiences thru out the whole of Europe, Canada, Asia, and India have applauded her.  She has been invited to perform with world-class orchestras such as the WDR Big Band and The Deutsches Filmorchester Babelsbergon numerous occasions. She has also performed in front of the international UNESCO delegation and participated in the three International Jazz Days in Paris, co-presenting the first edition of the event at the UNESCO headquarters in 2012.

She is the French voice of Walt Disney’s Princess Tiana (The Princess and the Frog – 2009). She also sang on André Manoukian’s “So in Love” album, recording several songs including the title track. She played the role of “Sally Bowles” in a new french Production of “Cabaret” by Opera Eclaté.

China Moses released in March 2016  her first EP “Whatever“, from her forthcoming sixth studio album, produced by UK Producer , Anthony Marshall,
